Te āheinga / The opportunity

Are you ready to make a meaningful impact in the lives of Northlanders? Join our team as a Transport Operations and Contracts Officer and help support the delivery of essential public services across Te Tai Tokerau. This is a varied and rewarding role suited to someone with a background in contract administration, contract coordination and operations experience who is looking to take the next step in their career. While transport industry experience would be an advantage, it is not essential. We're seeking someone with a thorough understanding of contract management and experience in coordinating operations.

Working closely with service providers and internal stakeholders, you'll play a key role in both the day-to-day operation of Northland's public transport network and the management of critical service contracts. You'll be responsible for overseeing contract performance, monitoring compliance, maintaining accurate records and reporting, and supporting procurement and contract renewal activities. At the same time, you'll be at the heart of delivering reliable and customer-focused public transport services, including CityLink, SchoolLink, and BusLink. This includes managing customer enquiries and feedback, coordinating public communications and social media updates, overseeing systems such as the Bee Card ticketing platform, managing the contract for the operation of the Rose Street Bus Terminal, and working with operators to resolve operational issues and drive continuous service improvements.

Your ability to build strong relationships, analyse information, resolve issues, and balance operational service delivery with contract management responsibilities will be key to your success. If you're organised, proactive, customer-focused, and have a strong understanding of contract management, we'd love to hear from you.

We are looking for someone who can bring the following skills, knowledge, personal qualities and experience to our diverse team: 

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in contract management, ideally with experience in a hands-on operational environment. A background in passenger transport would be desirable but not essential.
• Strong community networking and engagement skills with the ability to be innovative around engagement processes.  
• Displays cultural empathy and awareness. 
• Confident using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). 
• Comfortable working with digital systems and platforms. 
• Qualification in a relevant discipline is desired.
