Northland Regional Council’s role is to care for and protect Te Taitokerau Northland's environment and communities. Does that resonate with you?
Ko te aha ā mātou mahi? / What work do we do?
We’re focused on creating a healthy environment, strong economy and resilient communities - matching our skills and resources with the vision and aspirations of our people. Our mahi involves working in partnership with tāngata whenua and our communities to protect and care for our waters, land, air and native life, while building our region’s resilience and adapting to a changing climate. When you join us, you’re part of something bigger- helping Te Taitokerau thrive for generations to come.
Toitū te whenua, toitū te moana, toitū te tangata. If the land is well, if the sea is well, the people will thrive.
Te āheinga / The opportunity
Starting at the beginning of August, in this Whangārei based role, you’ll lead a team of six spread across three locations throughout Northland, guiding their partnership work programme to ensure strong performance, clear priorities, and effective delivery. You’ll lead the Land Management Partnerships Team to deliver its work programme to support the implementation of sustainable land use practices and actions in Te Tai Tokerau. You’ll oversee budgets, track progress, and keep stakeholders well informed as you support a coordinated, regionwide approach to sustainable land management.
Your ability to build strong, trusted relationships will be essential. You’ll work closely with landowners, rural communities, tangata whenua, and key partners to strengthen collaboration and champion Council’s vision for sustainable land management. You’ll also provide oversight of grant funding to ensure resources are allocated fairly and achieve the best environmental outcomes.
A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi underpins everything you do, supporting meaningful partnerships with Māori and ensuring our work reflects shared aspirations. Your expertise will also contribute to wider Council planning, helping embed practical, forward‑thinking land management perspectives where they matter most.
This is your opportunity to lead impactful work, empower a dedicated team, and help shape a healthier future for Northland’s land and waterways.
