Te āheinga / The opportunity

In this role, you will support the implementation and embedding of improvements to council’s contract management systems, helping staff adoption and ensuring contract processes run smoothly. Working as part of the business improvements team, you’ll help build contract management capability across the organisation and support the transition from contracts into project delivery, reducing risk and strengthening consistency. Your work will span key areas including system rollout and continuous improvement, end‑to‑end contract lifecycle support, risk management, audit and compliance assurance, and providing training and guidance to staff. This position is full-time, fixed term for 18 months.

You will support project management practices across the organisation, helping to foster a culture of structured and effective delivery. By championing best practice and contributing to staff development, you'll strengthen capability and ensure teams are supported to deliver projects with confidence and consistency. 

Your work will involve building strong links between contracts, projects, risk management, monitoring, and reporting. You’ll collaborate with teams across the organisation to align efforts, streamline workflows, and support continuous improvement initiatives that drive better outcomes. He kōrero mōu / About you

We are looking for someone proactive and adaptable, who can effectively juggle priorities. You will have experience in contract and project management ideally in a local government setting. In addition, you will bring the following: 

  • Relevant degree qualification (business, etc)
  • Experience in systems improvement  
  • Experience in project management and delivery
  • Experience in contract management
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Familiarity with, and experience working with corporate processes and/or business systems, ideally in a local government setting
  • Working knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and relationship building with tangata whenua
