Te āheinga / The opportunity
Our Environmental Monitoring Officers are an integral part of the work we do here at NRC and have a direct hand in improving the environment around us. You will be part of a field team undertaking our State of the Environment monitoring programmes. This includes sample collection, maintaining continuous water quality equipment, interpretation of environmental data, and engaging with stakeholders, including tangata whenua.
We seek an experienced field officer with a particular focus on lake monitoring experience and/or scientific knowledge of lake processes.
He kōrero mōu / About you
We are looking for someone who can bring the following skills, knowledge, personal qualities and experience to our diverse team:
- Relevant degree qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or similar.
- Proven experience in water quality and biological/ecological environmental data collection.
- Lake monitoring experience and/or Lake science knowledge highly desired.
- Boatmasters certification and small boat experience is highly desired.
- Sound knowledge of Regional Council Resource Management Act functions.
- A working knowledge of National Environmental Monitoring Standards.
- Previous experience in working in partnerships with iwi and hāpu and a practical knowledge and experience in Mātauranga Māori.
- Experience working with continuous monitoring equipment, data loggers and telemetry systems
