Te āheinga / The opportunity

Due to a secondment, we have an exciting fixed‑term role for a Geospatial Analyst to join our busy team through to mid‑July 2026. This is a great chance to grow your skills in a supportive environment, working with tools and data that make a real difference across council and our communities

You’ll help keep essential spatial data and systems running smoothly, ensuring the information the organisation relies on is accurate, accessible and well‑managed. The work is meaningful, varied and hands‑on, placing you right at the centre of how geospatial technology supports day‑to‑day operations.

You’ll work closely with teams across the council to understand business needs and translate them into smart, practical geospatial solutions. You’ll contribute to the planning and delivery of GIS projects, offer advice on specialist software and data, and champion best practice in data governance, quality and process management . You’ll also assist with maintaining and upgrading our publicly available GIS reports to ensure they are accurate and up to date. Supporting others will be a key part of your day-to-day, from training staff to fostering collaborative, innovative approaches to geospatial challenges.

He kōrero mōu / About you

We are looking for someone who can bring the following skills, knowledge, personal qualities and experience to our diverse team:

  • A degree or tertiary qualification in an appropriate discipline e.g. GIS, Geography, Surveying or equivalent experience in the operation of GIS software.
  • 2+ years experience in a GIS or similar role
  • Local government experience would be an advantage.
  • Understanding of Project Management best practice.
  • Proven knowledge, experience and understanding of GIS software, particularly web-based and mobile solutions and to have worked with/had experience with the following: 

    - ESRI’s ArcGIS Enterprise range of products

    - NZ Land Title system and coordinate systems

    - GIS Web applications    

  • Communication and interpersonal skills that foster working relationships both internally and externally, to supply high quality support services.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for supporting geospatial data and systems as business solutions.
