Te āheinga / The opportunity
Are you passionate about protecting native biodiversity and love working outdoors? Join our team of weed warriors helping to deliver the Northland Regional Pest and Marine Pathways Management Plan. You'll enjoy a rewarding mix of hands-on fieldwork, project and contract management, and community engagement—all in Northland’s stunning outdoor environment.
You will plan and deliver pest plant programmes for low-incidence species - out there undertaking surveillance and control work, and managing contracts. Your work will help prevent new pest plant threats from taking hold in Te Tai Tokerau and contribute to the eradication of key species across the region. Your work and expertise will help provide strategic recommendations to guide these pest plant programmes.
You will undertake stakeholder engagement, education, site visits and enforcement where required to ensure compliance with plan rules.
You'll be a visible and trusted source of advice, supporting community-led pest control initiatives and helping raise awareness and pest plant knowledge through field days, school visits, and public events. Whether you're identifying pest plants, assisting with funding applications, or inspiring action in local backyards and reserves, your relationship-building skills will be key to working with iwi and hapū, contractors, landowners, community groups and other agencies.
