Community Engagement

Ko te aha ā mātou mahi?  / What work do we do?

We work together with tangata whenua and communities to care for the incredible environment and many communities in our rohe, matching our skills and resources with the visions and aspirations of our people. We work to protect and restore healthy waters and our native taonga, through meaningful partnerships with tangata whenua and communities, and to build more resilient and adaptable communities in a changing climate. Here at Te Kaunihera ā rohe o Te Taitokerau | NRC, your mahi makes a real difference to our communities.

Toitū te whenua, toitū te moana, toitū te tangata. If the land is well, if the sea is well, the people will thrive.

Te āheinga / The opportunity

We’re looking for a practical, hands-on team player to support the delivery of our community engagement and environmental education mahi across our rohe. This is not your typical office job – the role combines behind-the-scenes planning and administration with helping to run engaging community events, from A&P shows to pest control courses for rangatahi.

You’ll be part of a busy, passionate department - primarily supporting our marketing and education teams. No two days are the same in this varied role – whether its booking venues, packing trailers, creating signage, or engaging with the public on-site, you’ll be central to making sure things run smoothly. The nature of the role means some weekend and after-hours work will be required.

When you're not out at events, you’ll be supporting the wider team with admin tasks, including data entry and purchase orders. This entry-level role also provides an opportunity to grow your marketing and communications skills in a creative and supportive environment.

He kōrero mōu / About you

You’re someone who brings energy, initiative, and a strong sense of ownership to your work. Highly organised and detail-oriented, you’ll be comfortable juggling multiple priorities and working in a range of different scenarios. We’re looking for someone practical and solutions-focused - the kind of person who sees what needs doing and gets stuck in.

This role involves a variety of hands-on tasks, including lifting and loading gear, setting up event spaces, and working on your feet for extended periods. You’ll need to be comfortable handling equipment and performing physical activities safely and efficiently as part of your day-to-day responsibilities.

The role would suit someone who’s worked in events, hospitality, retail, or customer service before, and understands what makes a good customer experience.

You’ll be a strong communicator – able to engage with a wide range of people face-to-face, over the phone and via email. Confidence working independently is important, but so is being reliable and collaborative in a team environment.

We understand that sometimes the right person doesn't ‘tick all the boxes'. If you feel that you have something to offer, but may not fully meet all the job criteria described, please don’t hesitate to apply, and we’ll consider all your talents.

Ko te aha ngā painga o te mahi kei konei? / What are the benefits of working here?

Just as you care about your community and environment, NRC cares about you and your wellbeing. Our organisation celebrates collective efforts and achievements and recognises every individual for their contributions and dedication to their mahi.
