We have an exciting opportunity for a Natural Resources Science Manager to join our Whangārei office. You will guide a talented Science team to deliver on The Northland Regional Council’s Science program which includes: 

  • River and coastal environment. 
  • World unique dune lakes. 
  • Freshwater ecology. 
  • Air quality. 
  • Groundwater. 

By joining the Natural Resources Science team, you will have the opportunity to lead a high performing and multidisciplinary team delivering environmental scientific advice and expertise supporting evidence-based policy development and decision-making for the sustainable management of our natural resources.  We need someone who will provide strong leadership skills and has proven success at building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.   

Do you have what it takes?  

We are looking for someone who can bring the following to our diverse talent pool:  

  • A degree in relevant natural, physical or environmental sciences. 

  • 5 plus year’s experience in Local Government Environment. 

  • Sound understanding of applied environmental science, investigation and monitoring processes. 

  • Good understanding of RMA (1991) & NPSFM 2020 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of meeting and supporting the obligations and intent of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.  

  • Experienced in coaching and developing people as well as building and enhancing the overall capability of the team to ensure quality analysis, advice and delivery.
