Te āheinga / The opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Environmental Data Analyst to bring innovation, automation, and insight to our environmental data systems. Your expertise in data science will be crucial in improving data accessibility for internal and external customers. You'll be a technical specialist with deep expertise in environmental data, managing systems, automating workflows, and applying advanced analytics (including AI) to help our teams unlock the full value of the data we collect. 

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and maintain automation processes for data transfer, processing and reporting.
  • Support and improve technical hard and soft-based systems.
  • Plan and execute specialist technical projects.
  • Explore and apply AI and advanced analytics.
  • Manage software updates and data system audits, ensuring high standards of quality and security.
  • Collaborate with IT and Communications to enhance reporting capabilities and scientific outputs.

This is a role where your work will directly support environmental decisions that shape the future of our rohe.

He kōrero mōu / About you

  • You will bring deep technical experience, a collaborative mindset and a passion for working with data. In addition, you will ideally also bring the following;
  • A tertiary qualification in environmental science, data science or a related field. 
  • 10+ years’ relevant experience in environmental data management and analysis.
  • Sound understanding of the principles of good data management and system development.
  • Strong programming skills in  R, Shiny, Python, SQL or similar.
  • Experience with Hilltop or other time-series management software.
  • Confidence using MS Office, ArcGIS and data visualisation software.
  • Solid knowledge of hydrology, freshwater management and water quality issues. 
  • A proactive and mentoring approach.
