Are you passionate about environmental protection and compliance? Join our dynamic team as a Farm Monitoring Officer, where you'll play a crucial role in safeguarding our natural resources. Our Compliance Monitoring – Primary Industries team contains a farm specialist, a farm monitoring officer, a farm contractor and this newly resourced position. Within this team, we manage all regional monitoring and incident response for farming related activities in Te Taitokerau.
In this role, you will carry out farm, dairy, and effluent monitoring for resource consents, regional rules, and other regulations. Your day-to-day activities include liaising with farmers and members of the public, conducting site inspections, sample collection, recording, reporting, and enforcing non-compliance. Preparing and presenting educational material for dairy farmers is also part of the job, helping them achieve compliance with national and regional rules. You'll participate in meetings with key stakeholders such as Fonterra, Dairy NZ, and Federated Farmers, promoting best practices in the use of natural resources.
You'll be an integral part of our 24/7 Environmental Hotline, participating in a roster system to ensure incidents are tackled promptly, even after hours. If you're ready to make a difference and promote environmental sustainability, we want to hear from you!
Do you have what it takes?
We are looking for someone who can bring the following to our diverse talent pool:
- A tertiary qualification relevant to the purpose of the position (i.e. a science-based discipline) and/or suitable experience and knowledge of farm management systems.
- Ability to manage difficult conversations and relate to a range of personalities.
- Full Drivers Licence.
- Displays cultural empathy and awareness.
- Sound knowledge of regional council Resource Management Act monitoring functions.
- Previous experience in the implementation of environmental monitoring programmes.
- Special technical knowledge and experience in working with the Resource Management Act 1991.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft systems e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Confident with public speaking and representing Council in working groups or other forums.
- Proficient in the use of databases.
